DPH Summer: Second Piece of the Puzzle

Thinking on my own project ideas, I want the focus to be synthesizing different literature texts surrounding World War I. Although I am still deciding on the specific content and interpretive angle, the subject matter opens up a lot of digital possibilities. For the actual literature itself I would ideally remain with physical texts, but the lesson could incorporate digital exhibits and collections from various museums regarding topics on the war and its corresponding writers. Of the tools that I have used for this course, I have not yet utilized digital mapping tools, but there could be potential use for a lesson centered on different experiences from the war and the writing they produced from those points. Seeing as I imagine my target audience to be a normal college classroom, similar to my undergraduate history classes, the majority of students would be natively familiar with digital tools and information, so finding a specific tool that engages them alongside physical texts would be paramount. Several museums that I have visited with WWI exhibits (especially the Kansas City National WWI Museum) have online components, so I imagine that those could serve as inspiration. Regardless of the exact tool I use, it must accentuate the role of interpretive discussion of the texts alongside their historic context; the discussions themselves would help with historical thinking, but so too should the content of the assignment itself.
